I'm Nicki, an Infant and Child Sleep Consultant and the owner of Chickadee Sleep Consultancy.

A little about me:

I was born and raised in sunny Golden Bay along with my 14 siblings, where I had a typical country upbringing.  Being the 3rd eldest of 15 children (many of whom I had an integral part in raising) gave me the ability to understand children, to read babies cues and to recognise the importance of being consistent, having a daily routine and a loving home environment. Having had an abundance of hands-on involvement over the years, I naturally gravitated towards working with children and developed a real love for little people, especially babies.
I started out babysitting, completed a PORSE Early Childhood Education and Care certificate then moved into a full time Nanny career, now totaling 22 years experience caring for children. During this time,  I found that many parents, especially first-time parents, were often at such a loss to know what to do with their precious baby who just wouldn't sleep or feed well, or they were so sleep deprived that parent-hood for them, was not the beautiful journey that it CAN be.
This inspired me to add to my repertoire and train as a Baby sleep consultant. The course was well recognised, thorough, holistic and based on the most up-to-date scientific studies in baby sleep.

It's ok Super-mums and Super-dads, you CAN do this!  It is totally possible to get a good nights sleep and to help your baby learn to do the same. I’ll help you!

It will take some change, consistency, lots of patience and the inner strength you didn't know you had. But don't worry, you will not be alone. I am here to support YOU and to empower YOU! Together, we will come up with a plan for you and your baby. This plan will be tailored to your child's individual needs, your home environment, your goals and your preferred parenting style. I offer a broad range of techniques that you can choose from, based on your baby's personality. Once your personalised "Baby sleep plan" is set up, we will journey together towards better sleep and a more settled lifestyle for you and your family.

What is a Sleep consultant?

We are caring people who love babies and have a passion for seeing them and their parents/caregivers get the sleep they need to grow and function.

We educate and offer advice, techniques and guidance that help you to improve your little ones' sleep.

We use evidence based solutions and the most recent research in sleep science.

We can teach you about the biological need to sleep, when this sleep drive is the strongest, the science behind sleep, your baby's sleep environment, and all about safe sleep practices.

We help you to gently teach your child the life long skill of learning to fall asleep without assistance.

We get to know you and your child by having a good chat before we set out a plan of action.

We are all about encouraging and empowering you as the parents with knowledge, skills and reassurance throughout our journey together.

What is Sleep Training?

Sleep training is NOT ‘cry it out’. It’s mostly about optimizing a routine, initially focusing on bedtime and naps, looking at associations and teaching the baby to initiate sleep independently. Training helps them learn to connect their sleep cycles and to drop night wakings on their own, resulting in better sleep for all!

I offer a variety of techniques so that you can choose what suits you and your baby, as babies and parents, are all different!

What can Sleep Consultants help with:

Is your toddler constantly coming out of their bed? Does your 1 year old NEED you to rock them to sleep every night? Does your 3 year old sleep with you every night? Do you want your bed back?

Does your newborn seem unsettled and won't nap well? Is your baby waking hourly from 1 am?

Does your child wake way too early in the morning for it to be called day? Are you and your baby overtired? Babies are all different, so please don't feel pressured to have your baby sleeping the same as your friend's baby may be.

If something is an issue for you, it's an issue. I can help you find a solution.

I work with babies and toddlers from birth to around 5 years old. If you're struggling with something your baby or child is doing or not doing, call me!
